I GOT A JOB!!!

WHOOO HOOOO!!! YAY! After just a very short 6 months, I got a call for a job offer today, and I am so derned happy I could spit!!! Not for the job I interviewed for yesterday, but the one I interviewed for a few weeks ago. The one that looked sooo promising, but didn't get. Well happily they got another opening and thought of me! These are the two women that interviewed me, where I had just too much fun. That is HIGHLY unusual for an interview, and I will need to be careful not to be toooo relaxed with them. I will be working at Hoag Hospital in the Stroke Unit. I will be starting Feb. 1st. I am a little nervous though since I have to take an EKG/Pharm test before I'm official in that department. I will sign some forms tomorrow. I am sooo happy.

P.S. I had a lovely bday, when we weren't battling our now 18 yr old. She went off and got a tattoo, KNOWING how we felt, and the consequences that would follow! So sad. That's all I can say. Parenting teens....not for the weak hearted.

Amen to that! Parenting teens is one tough job!

Congrats again on the job! Now I understand why you got a job yesterday, since it was from the previous interview, not the one the day before yesterday!

YEAH on the job!!!! You will do awesome! We want numerous updates on the new job when you start!!

As for raising teenagers... my oldest turned 18 this past August and it just seems when they hit that age their thought process goes somewhere else! I could wring his neck sometimes with the decisions he is making and if he could afford to live on his own he would be out of the house!! Good luck!

From the Charge Nurse who interviewed Heather.....

WE see so many applicants...but who is chosen..and why? I met Heather at a New Grad event when she visited the table that I was working at. Heather sparkled of charisma...may I mention that there were almost 500 new grads in attendance with 12 available positions. Many walked up and simply stated "Are you hiring?" I understand that it was a job fair and getting employment was after all the goal, however it takes a very special nurse to work with acute brain injury patients whose lives changed in an instant.

Heather came for an interview. I immediately felt that she encompassed a genuine passion for not only people and life, but for the job in which she was applying for. So many times the interview revolves around the resume that sits before you as the interviewer. I didn't care that Heather didn't have her EKG test or NIHSS(stroke scale) certification.. I knew that I wanted her hired, however the final decision wasn't up to me. Can passion be taught? I know that EKG and stroke scales can...these patients need more than a nurse with great clinical skills to achieve the best possible outcomes.

I believe Heather has all that it will take to become an amazing neuroscience nurse. I believe in her 100% and I look forward to guiding her down an extremely challenging yet rewarding path.
